Come and See
These works are an invitation for the imagination, in a way that is only possible with the subtleties of painting. At first viewing they may appear ambiguous, however it takes the participation of the viewer to complete the work.
Forms are hinted with sensitive brush strokes that dissolve into nothing, textures come out of while others descend into the canvas, contrasts are strong or difficult to see. The formal painting language is used to engage and silence the mind and lead to a clarity of vision. The duality of the diptych is echoed in the form the a book, where the proportions of the each unit is the same as the whole.
The starting point for this work was the phrase Come and See from the Book of Revelations, where the seven seals are opened and the visions unfold. This text is of more relevance today than it has ever been and this exhibition was antitheses for secular dogmas and conventions that I found in academia. Where science is considered above religion and religious text nothing more than myth and superstition, even though nobody really knows what it is all about. This body of work was attempting to saying you are missing the point in a positive and inspiring way for those who wished to see, the funny thing was I don't think they really got.
Please note that due to the limitations of photography and the internet allot of the sensitivities that these work require to work can not be appreciated.
