Ray of the Sun

Following a visit to the Royal Academy Aztec exhibition in 2002. There were many wonderful sculptures and artifacts on display, one small enigmatic abstract stone sculpture caught my attention, I believe this was called Xicahuaztli translated as Sunbeam or Ray of the Sun.

This body of work was inspired after the visit to the exhibition and this theme has resurfaced on several occasions since. The work above as part of my final degree show at the Bolton Institute of Higher Education, 2004, There were several elements to exhibition with the two main pieces were the metal sculpture and a 3d stereo installation which was produced before 3d TV and digital cameras were affordable..The theme of the Ray of the sun was unfolded in the language of metal sculpture and stereo imagery chronicling the 3d world.
